As part of delivering one of Australia’s largest public transport projects – Sydney Metro Northwest – the NSW Government need to convert the existing railway between Epping and Chatswood to metro operation standards. This section of track is heavily used by over 20,000 passengers per day, providing access to a nationally significant university, a major shopping centre and multiple employment districts. Upgrades requires that this section be temporarily closed for approximately seven months. Transport for NSW needed a transport solution to ensure that the impact on customers was minimised during the upgrade. The project is a key component of the $8.3 billion Sydney Metro North West project and involves the provision of a rail replacement service.
SCT Consulting was approached to manage the project and provide technical expertise on the basis of our extensive major project experience. The SCT Consulting team has extensive experience in road network optimisation, which is critical as the alternative transport options are road based. Our team are also relationship builders and able to work with people of diverse backgrounds and objectives. This is a key challenge when engaging multiple agencies and divisions across the NSW Transport cluster.
SCT Consulting worked in house to lead the collaboration of multiple government agencies to develop a solution known as ‘Station Link’, which commenced operation on 30 September 2018. We managed and successfully delivered technical assessments of network and bus operation elements to ensure that the service was planned within a comprehensive network efficiency framework. The project also focused on driving road network safety, pedestrian management, communications, customer impact and management of change plan outcomes to ensure that the impact on customers was understood and minimised.
