Snowy 2.0 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
Snowy 2.0 is a proposed $4.5 billion pumped-hydro expansion of the Snowy Mountains Scheme which will supercharge its existing hydro-electric generation and large-scale storage capabilities. As the economy decarbonises and baseload coal-fired power stations retire, more intermittent generation (such as wind and solar) is entering the market. This creates the need for quick, dispatchable energy generation such as pumped hydro and large-scale storage. With such a significant project to Australia’s continued energy security and sustainability and the proposed scale, the environmental impact statement was crucial to the success for Snowy Hydro Limited.
SCT Consulting has a wealth of experience in Environmental Impact Statements and other planning approval processes. Staff have prepared traffic and transport assessments for major projects including NorthConnex, Sydney Metro Northwest, the Major Development Plan for Sydney Airport Ground Access Solutions for T2/T3 and REF for T1, Singleton Bypass Options Assessment – all of which progressed to contract award.
The team were engaged to prepare the traffic and transport assessment of the Snowy 2.0 EIS. We managed the entire process which included traffic surveys, technical assessments, future growth forecasting all the way to the production of the report for public exhibition, which can be found on the NSW Major Projects Website – (http://majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au/index.pl?action=view_job&job_id=9208).
