Valley of the Winds Wind Farm
Valley of the Winds is an 800-megawatt wind farm that is in the early stages of planning. Up to 154 wind turbines are being proposed across three clusters: Mount Hope; Girragulang Road; and Leadville. These clusters will be linked electrically via a high voltage transmission line that would run about 65 kilometres to the existing Bayswater to Mt Piper 500 kV transmission line. The proposed site is located close to the township of Coolah, in the Warrumbungle local government area of north-western NSW and is within Australia’s first ever Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) – the Central-West Orana REZ.
In collaboration with Ramboll, SCT Consulting led the preparation of the Traffic and Transport Assessment of the EIS. Transport assessment was considered a significant component of the EIS and included the assessment of construction traffic impacts along the construction access routes and critical intersections for a peak scenario, including geometric
and sight distance reviews.
Appraisal of construction traffic impacts on all modes of transport was conducted as well as advice on mitigation measures, including any road upgrades, changes to sealed widths, and construction traffic management plans. Additional tasks included managing the traffic surveys, technical assessments, future growth forecasting and production of the report, as well as review of the traffic and transport chapter of the main EIS.
This project is currently being assessed for planning approval as a State Significant
Development.
