Sydney Metro Corridor Station Precincts
Sydney Metro North-west is Stage 1 of the overall Sydney Metro project and involved the construction of eight new metro stations and supporting infrastructure between Tallawong and Epping, as well as converting five existing heavy rail stations between Epping and Chatswood.
SCT Consulting, Landcom and the Sydney Metro Delivery Office (SMDO), part of Transport for NSW, worked in collaboration to develop walkable, attractive, mixed use places around the Sydney Metro North-west stations. This was facilitated through the use of surplus government owned land located around each of the eight stations. The proposed developments support best practice transit- oriented development principles, by providing increased residential density in proximity of existing and planned transport infrastructure upgrades. The proposed infrastructure upgrades will provide residents with greater access to public transport and employment options, while promoting the use of sustainable travel options.
SCT Consulting prepared the Traffic and Transport Impact Assessments to support the State Significant Development Applications for each of the Station Precincts at Epping, Castle Hill Showground, Norwest and Tallawong Stations.
The transport strategy for the sites focused on the principles of a transit-oriented development, implementation of targeted travel demand management measures and green travel initiatives to reduce the need and reliance on private vehicle travel. These principles were developed in close collaboration with Transport for NSW and SMDO as well as the wider design team.
