Multi-modal transport planning for events is a critical consideration in ensuring both the venue and surrounding precinct can accommodate crowds in a safe, easy and comfortable manner.
SCT Consulting led the development of an event transport strategy for a bespoke site in Morisset, known as Cedar Mill Lake Macquarie. The event space, intended to cater for event crowds of up to 30,000, will be operated as a flexible event space catering for large-scale shows, concerts, exhibitions, conferences, markets, community, and family events.
Our team used their expertise in transport planning, engineering and modelling, including pedestrian planning and analysis, to develop the transport response for event operations. The strategy focused on the feasibility of mode-share, risk assessment and mitigation strategy, and assessment of the on and off-site infrastructure.
The risk-based approach was a key component of the event strategy, as it provided confidence to Council and TfNSW that future operators (and the site itself) had a level of flexibility to respond to the uncertain nature of event operations. The risk-based approach, paired with our team’s understanding of appropriate methodologies for the size and complexity of the task and ongoing consultation with all stakeholders contributed to the development approval granted to the site.
